Watauga is on U.S. Highway 377 ten miles northwest of Fort Worth in northern Tarrant County. Located at an elevation of 660' the City of Watauga has an average high temperature of 76 degrees. The average low temperature is 55 degrees. An estimated 26,000 people now enjoy the peaceful, friendly atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Watauga is easily accessible to downtown Fort Worth, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, General Dynamics and Bell.
The first permanent residents arrived after the Civil War. The name is a Cherokee word meaning village of many springs; the area is supposed to have been occupied by Cherokees at one time. Watauga developed as a loosely organized area of relatively large farms and ranches, which did not become a recognizable community until the early 1880s.
Watauga is located in the center of a region that offers entertainment and activities for everyone. There are three family entertainment centers and within a five mile radius, three multi-screen theater complexes and a water recreation park. Watauga is also the proud owner of a modern library which provides year-round programs for adults and children including homework assistance.
Elementary and secondary education services within the Watauga are provided by the Birdville and Keller Independent School Districts. There are four campuses located within the City, with nearly 4,000 students enrolled and being instructed by nearly 200 classroom teachers. Watauga is served by six elementary, four middle schools and four high schools. There are also numerous private schools easily accessible to Watauga residents.
The real estate market in Watauga consists primarily of single-family detached homes. Included are a number of new communities and countless established neighborhoods with a wide variety of single- and multi-family housing options.
