The Colony is located in the fastest-growing area of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, just 35 minutes north of downtown Dallas along the southeastern shores of Lake Lewisville. The Colony shares history unique to this part of the state. The Colony was named after the historic Peters Colony Settlement, the only free land grant colony in the Republic of Texas. Some portions of the land for The Colony were purchased from descendants of the original settlers in the 1840s. The City of The Colony was incorporated in January, 1977.
