Residents enjoy exceptional fishing, boating and sailing, in addition to the 330 acres of parkland and dedicated natural open space. There are 4 marinas, 3 public boat ramps and a yacht club famous for sailing regattas. The lake looms large over public life in Rockwall. Plans for public boardwalks, fountains and plazas are currently underway to provide even more access to the lake. Big-city amenities are just a short drive away. The real appeal of Rockwall is the relaxed, fun-loving lifestyle.
Students attend school through the Rockwall Independent School District, a "recognized" district. Homes are plentiful and new subdivisions spring up every day. There's a residence for every budget and lifestyle from starter home to luxury home.
Rockwall gets its name from a geological mystery. When settlers first tried to dig wells in 1851, they discovered underground rock walls. The walls appeared man-made, and the settlers assumed they were ancient barriers. Geologists now believe the walls are a result of weather sand dikes formed along the Balcones Fault Line. Evidence of these rock walls can still be seen at several points throughout the county.
