The city of Lucas is located approximately 35 miles northeast of downtown Dallas on the western shore of Lake Lavon. Lucas was incorporated in 1959. The current population is approximately 5,015. Lucas is situated near SH-190 (President George Bush Freeway) to the south, Central Expressway to the east, and SH-121 to the north. The town is 7.7 square miles in size.
The best of all worlds exist in Lucas. There is virtually no traffic, and only one traffic light. Residents have close-in country living with quick, easy access to shopping, major thoroughfares, great schools, and hospitals in nearby Allen.
There are five different school Districts which serve the small town of Lucas, including Allen ISD, McKinney ISD, Lovejoy ISD, Plano ISD, and Princeton ISD. The majority of students, however, are served the Lovejoy Independent School District, three miles east of Allen and about 25 miles north of Dallas in the fast developing region of central Collin County. Since 1917, Lovejoy has served the residents of Fairview, Lucas, and other surrounding neighborhoods. The district includes two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
Housing opportunities abound in Lucas. The city planners zoned all of the land they could into a density of no more than one home per acre. Many homes sit on lots of land from one and half to two acres. There is no central sewer system in Lucas, so homes must have septic systems.
