Glenn Heights is a pleasant residential community with low cost of living just minutes from Dallas. This city is ideal for those who want the quiet life with the amenities of a nearby metropolitan area.
Home to roughly 7,200 residents, Glenn Heights sits just minutes south of Downtown Dallas via Interstate 35E. The northern half of the city is in Dallas County and the southern half is in Ellis County. Glenn Heights is the only southern suburb of Dallas along the I-35E Corridor that participates in Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). DART operates a "Park and Ride" facility just off of I-35E on Bear Creek. Glenn Heights' participation in DART enables residents to participate in all the advantages of regional transportation.
For outdoorsmen, Glenn Heights is minutes away from Lake Joe Pool. To the south are Lake Waxahachie, Lake Whitney, and Bardwell. Each of these locations provides camping, fishing, hunting and water sport activities.
The northern, Dallas County portion of the city lies in the DeSoto Independent School District, and the southern portion of the city is served by the Red Oak School District. Bus service is provided by both districts. DeSoto ISD is a 5A school with all the advantages of one of the largest school districts in the state. Red Oak ISD is a 4A school with the advantages of a medium size school district in a more rural environment. Several private schooling alternatives are available in and around the city including The Canterbury School. Childcare providers are also abundant.
According to the 2000 census, the median income for a Glenn Heights household was $51,076. Homes range from older homes in the low-to-mid $100,000s, to newer construction in the $200,000s. There is also the occasional undeveloped farmland availability.
