A town of 6,100 people that's located 45 miles west of Chicago, Yorkville offers pleasant country living, accessibility to major roads, different types of housing, and plenty of leisure-time activities. I-88 is close by, and Yorkville can also be reached from the southern part of the Chicago area via I-55. Aurora Municipal Airport is located just six miles away in Sugar Grove, and O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport are an hour away. Yorkville serves as the county seat in Kendall County. In their spare time, villagers can have some fun over the Labor Day weekend at the town's Riverfront Festival, which takes place in beautiful Riverfront Park, situated against the backdrop of the Fox River; offerings include a carnival, free concerts, a craft show, food, games, and other special events. Residents can also listen to some music at the town's Friday night "Music Under the Stars" concerts, which take place in Town Square Park during the summer. Other popular events include Yorkville's annual Fourth of July celebration, a Halloween costume contest, an annual Christmas walk, and dinner theater performances given by the Fox Country Players, a local community theater group. The Yorkville Public Library- open seven days a week- is also a popular spot for villagers. Yorkville's location on the scenic Fox River makes it an ideal spot for a variety of recreational activities; fishermen, boaters and canoeists all take advantage of the recreational opportunities. The Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department maintains Yorkville's parks, and offers a number of programs and sports-related activities including basketball, dance and exercise classes, golfing, soccer, tennis, tumbling, and street hockey. The Fox Valley Family YMCA on East Main Street also sponsors a variety of programs including swimming and gymnastics, and the Hoover Outdoor Education Center, owned by the Boy Scouts of America, maintains a 406-acre camp along the Fox River. There, scouts can spend time camping and swimming and participating in arts and crafts and nature studies. Housing in Yorkville comes in various sizes and architectural styles. There are restored turn-of-the century homes, and also new neighborhoods featuring contemporary residences. The cost of housing tends to be much lower than in suburbs closer to Chicago. « Show less
