Located 19 miles northwest of Chicago's Loop, the DuPage County village of Wood Dale covers 4.7 square miles and has a population of 13,419 (2005). Nearby towns include Bensenville, Addison, Itasca, Elk Grove Village, and Villa Park. It offers a variety of new housing, plentiful recreation and close proximity to O'Hare International Airport and major expressways. It is also home to many corporations, some of which make their home in a 225-acre industrial site called Chancellory Business Park. The Wood Dale Park District oversees a water park that contains a 25-year, L-shaped pool, a children's water play area, two water slides, an adult deck with a heated spa, sand volleyball, and a playground equipment area. The Park District also manages a 1,900-square-foot fitness studio, a recreational complex, and the Salt Creek Golf Club, an 18-hole golf club that can be played as a nine or 18-hole course. There are also several forest preserves, two other golf courses, and many neighborhood parks that provide recreational opportunities for villagers. Wood Dale also boasts excellent schools and six churches. The community contains many clubs and organizations including the Wood Dale Garden Club, Wood Dale Football, Wood Dale Baseball, the Wood Dale Homeowners' Association, the Knights of Columbus, and many others. The Wood Dale Historical Society maintains a museum on one of the original farmsteads in the area. The Wood Dale Public Library on Wood Dale Road offers a wide range of services and makes available to residents a variety of items including video and audio tapes, magazines, newspapers, and books from other libraries. In terms of housing, the community provides a variety of housing including condominiums, luxury town homes and single-family homes.
