Located just minutes from O'Hare International Airport and 13 miles west of Chicago's Loop, the community of Schiller Park identifies itself on its website as a village with "A Small Town Feel with a World at its Touch." Covering an area of only 2.8 square miles, the Cook County suburb has a population of 11,597 (2005), and is a mix of residential, industrial, commercial, and open space. Schiller Park is bordered by O'Hare International Airport to the west, the Chi Chi Pin Quoi Forest Preserves to the east, the village of Rosemont to the north, and the village of Franklin Park to the south. Schiller Park is easily accessible from the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94). Drivers can travel to downtown Chicago in 25 minutes and Midway Airport in 45 minutes. The Metra commuter train leaves nearby Franklin Park and arrives in downtown Chicago in about 25 minute. In addition, Schiller Park now has its own Metra station on the North-Central service line between Antioch and downtown Chicago. House seekers can find various types of housing at different prices in Schiller Park: from simple, frame single-family homes to more expensive, newly-built residences. The Schiller Park Library lends books, magazines, videos, newspapers, books on tapes and compact discs to residents. In their spare time, residents can also sign up for the many programs and activities offered by the Schiller Park Recreation Department. An indoor recreation center features a racquetball court, a fitness area, a teen room, and a full-size gymnasium. The Recreation Department also oversees six community parks, which have two lighted ball fields, lighted bocce ball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, gazebos, and several play areas. Kennedy Park is home to Memorial Pool- an Olympic-size outdoor pool. The Park also has a sand volleyball court, two tennis courts and several other amenities.
