Located 24 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, the suburb of Rolling Meadows is a close-knit community that boasts excellent schools and a park district that offers a wide range of recreational activities. The Cook County suburb covers an area of 5.5 square miles; nearby towns include Palatine, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Inverness, Mount Prospect, and Hoffman Estates. The population of Rolling Meadows is 23,909 (2005 O'Hare International Airport is 12 miles away. In terms of education, three school districts, several parochial and private schools, and several childcare facilities serve the region. Community Consolidated School District #15 is comprised of 19 schools, whose mission is to provide a solid foundation and to assist students in developing their full potential as independent learners and problem solvers. It is the only school district in the state to receive the Achievement of Excellence Award from the Lincoln Foundation for Business Excellence. Rolling Meadows High School serves the eastern area of the village. More than 88 percent of its graduates continue on to higher education. William Fremd High School is located in neighboring Palatine and serves the western area of Rolling Meadows. More than 95 percent of its graduates pursue high education. There are also a number of colleges in the area. These include William Rainey Harper College in Palatine; Roosevelt University in Schaumburg; DePaul University in Rolling Meadows; and Argosy University on Golf Road in Rolling Meadows. For shopping, residents can visit the Meadows Town Mall Shopping Center, the Paddock Shopping Center, the Southland Shopping Center, and the Rolling Meadows Shopping Center. They can also head on over to Randhurst Shopping Center in Mount Prospect, and to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, one of the largest retail shopping centers in the United States. Rolling Meadows offers a diverse selection of housing styles. Older housing is located east of Route 53, and includes ranches, split-levels and multi-family complexes. Upscale single-family housing, condominiums, townhomes and apartments can be found west of Route 53. There are many recreational activities from which residents can choose. The Rolling Meadows Park District offers: Eleven parks with lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and picnic areas; a nature preserve with hiking trails; the Nelson Sports Complex, which features an indoor ice area, a fitness center, swimming pool and more; a community center that offers programs for persons of all ages; and the West Meadows Ice Arena, which features an NHL-size indoor rink.
