Nearby towns include Homewood, Flossmoor, East Hazel Crest, Thornton, and Chicago Heights. Glenwood covers approximately four and one-half square miles, and its population is 9,000 (2000). It is located 23 miles from Midway Airport. Glenwood's housing stock is comprised of a variety of architectural styles, ranging from turn-of-the-century homes to modern condominiums and split-level homes. The downtown district features older Cape Cod residences and ranch-style home built primarily in the 1920s and 1930s. There is some renovation of older homes taking place, and some of the newest neighborhoods include upscale developments with large, custom-built homes. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, two-bath condominium in Glenwood was priced at $207,000; a three-bedroom, two-bath single-family home was listed for $299,900. Many residences in Glenwood are conveniently located within walking distance of the area's schools and shopping districts. Students who live in Glenwood receive a top-notch education, as the Glenwood area is well-known for its outstanding schools. Students are served by Elementary Schools Districts #167 (Brookwood), #153 (Homewood-Flossmoor), and by High School Districts #206 (Bloom Township) and #233 (Homewood-Flossmoor).
