Boxborough, with its hilltop town center has a population of approximately 3000 residents. Incorporated in 1783, the town retains much of the architecture of the period with federal style homes. There has been little industrial or commercial development, but roads including route 111 and Interstate 495 have spurred residential development. Located at a convenient midway point between two large cities, Boxborough is 25 miles east of Worcester and 28 miles west of Boston. Surrounding towns include Acton, Stowe, Harvard and Littleton. Commuter rail access to Boston is available in neighboring Acton and Littleton.
Blanchard Memorial Elementary School is located in town, but Boxborough shares its regional school district with Acton. R. J. Grey Junior High School and Acton-Boxborough Regional High School are in Acton and Minuteman Regional High School is in nearby Lexington. In addition to these public schools, families can send their children to several nearby charter schools.
The town, governed by open town meeting and a board of selectmen, provides no water or sewer service. However, the town has police and fire departments. The town's long history is preserved by a historical society that operates a museum within the public library. Additionally, there are other clubs and community organizations in Boxborough including a Newcomers' Club; Rotary Club; and The Boxborough Minutemen Company that conducts fundraising, community service and participates in commemorative events, all in effort to keep the local history alive.
The Boxborough Conservation Trust works to protect the town's abundant undeveloped land. A large portion of the town's 10 square miles are designated conservation lands. Both condominiums and single family homes are available in this country community setting. Condominiums range from the mid 100's to 300's, for larger units. The architecture here is traditional. Capes and colonial homes predominate.
