Acton, Massachusetts, just 25 miles northwest of Boston, offers both commuter convenience and the appeal of a small New England town. Intersected by routes 2, 27 and 111, Acton offers residents a variety of retail stores and services, including several museums and a community theater. The Acton Memorial Library that dates back to 1889 contains a high quality collection. Schools here are among the best in the state. Acton shares a regional school district with neighboring Boxborough.
There are five public elementary schools, a junior high school and high school. Additionally, the active town government provides residents with a full-time fire department and accredited police department. Incorporated in 1735, the town of Acton features a variety of historic homes, many with dating to the time of the area's first settlers in the early 1700's. Numerous monuments in town commemorate local participation in the American Revolution and Civil War. Additionally there are many newly constructed homes.
Acton's accessibility to other towns and to the city of Boston hasn't compromised its charm as a postcard New England town to be enjoyed in all four seasons. Newer homes still retain the traditional flavor and blend well architecturally with the predominant Cape Cod and colonial styles. Though the population has tripled in the past 30 years, one can still appreciate history and natural beauty while enjoying a country drive or a hiking trail along the tree-lined rural roads and low stone walls that ramble through the uncluttered landscape of Acton.
