Although Harwood is primarily a rural residential neighborhood, numerous attractions abound in nearby Annapolis. Maryland's state capitol is known not only for its splendid colonial architecture and cobblestone streets, but for its bustling downtown, in which trendy boutique shops, gourmet restaurants, and local art galleries frame the picturesque harbor of the Chesapeake Bay. Annapolis is also home to two very prestigious institutions of higher learning: St. John's College and the United States Naval Academy.
Although most homes in the Harwood area are older farming estates, new developments are popping up, as more and more Marylanders gain an interest in this rural yet convenient area. However, in keeping with the agrarian culture and historic feel of the town, new homes are designed to blend seamlessly with the colonial style of other homes in the area and land protection bills ensure that Harwood will maintain the pastoral landscape that make it such a desirable and unique community.
