Dayton Maryland is a small town adjacent to the larger suburb of Ellicott City, one of Howard County's most in-demand real estate markets. Like many of Ellicott City's outlying suburbs, most homes in Dayton are newer constructions, built since the 1980's, with accommodating square footage and more spacious lots than those found in more populous Howard County suburbs.
Although the historic homes that have made Ellicott City popular over the years are not available in Dayton, many of the newer homes are built with the same design principles, giving the high end community of Dayton a strong sense of character. Homes in Dayton come at a premium price, but with its central location, suburban convenience, and plentiful land, Dayton is a smart choice in Howard County.
Part of the award-winning Howard County School district, Dayton residents attend some of the best public elementary, middle, and high schools in the state of Maryland and parents from surrounding counties vie for coveted spots in the classrooms. In addition to their excellent public schools, Dayton and its neighboring towns feature several respected college preparatory private schools with small class sizes and individualized attention.
Although Dayton is primarily a bedroom community for professionals commuting to the larger metropolitan areas of Washington DC and Baltimore, residents can find plenty of attractions close by in Ellicott City. Its charming historic downtown, complete with antique shops, gourmet restaurants, and art galleries lining winding streets cobblestone streets, draws visitors from all over Maryland, while all of the modern conveniences of suburban life can be found in the outlying areas along Route 40.
