The Harford County community on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay is best known as the site of Aberdeen Proving Grounds, whose government agency tenants, including the US Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine, US Research, Development and Engineering, and the US Army Ordinance Center and Schools, provide employment to thousands of Maryland residents. In addition to making continuous efforts to secure the nation's safety, Aberdeen Proving Grounds spearheads local efforts to preserve and restore the natural beauty of Aberdeen's rural landscape.
Although the Proving Grounds are synonymous with the community of Aberdeen, it is also is well known for its baseball tradition, which stems from the native family of baseball greats, the Ripkens.
