Briarcliff started out as a resort community on Lake Travis in the 1960's. Most area residents were not full time but rather built summer homes and cottages along the lakes shores and surrounding hills. Water sports and country club activities kept the part time residents happy and active during their stay. Eventually these residents either sold or retired there and this resort community slowly transformed into a small full-time community. Today the population of Braircliff stands a shade under 900 residents.
Travis Independent School District educates the children of Briarcliff. Lake Travis ISD has seven school campuses that provide a lasting learning experience. The district and school campuses meet and exceed their educational requirements and several of Lake Travis' schools have rated recognized and exemplary. Athletics plays an important part in Lake Travis Independent School Districts educational plan as do extra curricular activities.
The community of Briarcliff offers a wide range of housing choices. You can find lake side cottages and bungalows, early vacation homes and some newer construction Many of the original homes have been recently remodeled. Depending on the location of these older homes the prices can sometimes be high. In May 2008, the average price of a single family home or condo in Briarcliff was $434,000. The community itself revolves around the lake and its many activities. For boating enthusiasts the Braircliff Marina can be the center of the universe. Most boating adventures start at the marina, where you can gas up the boat, have lunch or dinner at the Lakehouse cafe or cruise the shores in search of other activities to fill lazy sun drenched days and balmy evenings. If you don't own a water craft, you take advantage of the marina rentals and experience the lake at its best.
Shopping and area businesses are located in the many neighboring communities. Everything you need is within minutes of Braircliff and most residents are happy to stay close to the community they love. For a day in the city, Austin is a short commute and offers all the big city entertainment and activities anyone could possibly want.
