Bee Cave was first settled by the Bohls family. Dietrich Bolhs wanted a simpler life for his family, so in the 1850s he moved his family from a small home in Austin to the area later to be called Bee Cave. The name Bee Cave came to be used more as a description of the area due to large bee hives located near Barton Creek and Little Barton Creek. The Village of Bee Cave was officially declared incorporated in 1987. Today Bee Cave is growing and the population now exceeds 9,000. Bee Cave is serviced by the highly acclaimed Lake Travis Independent School District.
