Bowdon is located in Carroll County and at the time of the 2000 census, had a total population of 1,959. Bowdon is just over an hour from Atlanta and is accessible to Interstate 20 which flows into the heart of Atlanta's downtown area.
The city of Bowdon is a community-centered town with a keen focus on its residents. When Bowdon recently broke ground on a new park, city officials opened up the naming process to the residents and welcomed everyone to submit their ideas. The Bowdon Recreation Department encourages community sports and offers lots of opportunities for area youth to get involved and learn the value of team work and sportsmanship. Whether it's baseball, basketball or track and field, there's an activity that every Bowdon child can get involved in. Additionally, the area has lots of activities for seniors as well. The Bowdon Senior Center offers Tai Chi and line dancing classes as well as schedules free health screenings for the growing number of baby boomers and retirees in the area.
The commitment to community that Bowdon's residents share couldn't be better exemplified than by the recently erected Copeland Hall. One of Bowdon's longtime relatives bequest his estate for the construction of the new building. The hall houses a 500-seat auditorium and a basketball gymnasium for all of the town's residents to enjoy.

Sewell Memorial Library as well as The Shelnutt House Museum (sometimes called the Shelnutt/Wessinger House) which is considered to be the oldest house in Bowdon.
