New addition to neighboring SLC city is first of many

After a year of construction, the Promenade at Fairbourne Station in West Valley City, Utah, opened for the community to enjoy. Real estate in Salt Lake City and its surroundings now have more to offer after the opening of the $3.4 million, 4-acre park. The suburb of Salt Lake City is the state’s second largest city.

Residents of the area, like Barbara Castillo, long awaited the opening of the park, which provides a new place for children to play and a relaxing area to read or enjoy the scenery, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. The park was constructed to be a public gathering area for community activities, farmers markets and street festivals. Designed with a pedestrian walkway and bike-friendly paths, the community center has turned the area into an enjoyable destination for the whole family. For the summer months, the park has a fountain and a shallow river for kids to splash around in and cool off.

“If you’re hopping off the TRAX, waiting for a bus, it’s somewhere to come relax and enjoy nature. If you live in West Valley and just want to take the kids to a fun, free place and splash about a bit before you go to the library or the mall it’s a great place to come,” West Valley Mayor Mike Winder said at the opening of the Promenade, according to local NPR station KCPW. “It’s really serving transit users, or those looking for a place to stop on a lunch break, really all purpose use.”

The Promenade is in the perfect location, with surrounding shops and a nearby public library and train station to encourage more visitors to join in on the fun. But for residents, the park is just the beginning of what Mayor Winder has in mind for the area. West Valley City is already becoming a more exciting place to live, and plans are in the works for a large transit system. As of now, more development is going up in the area, including residential towers.

The downtown area, Fairbourne Station, also has 200,000 square feet of office space for commercial use and another 200,000 square feet of space for retail and restaurants. The master planned community includes a civic center, city hall, police headquarters and a courthouse.
