Seniors can get local help for repairs to their Folsom real estate
As a senior who has just purchased one of the homes for sale in Folsom, you'll quickly find quite a few reasons why you'll be happy to live in this small California city. For example, if you need some relatively minor but essential repairs to your property and you don't have the out-of-pocket money to cover the costs yourself, you may be able to take advantage of the Seniors Helping Seniors Handyman Program.
This initiative is available for anyone 65 years of age or older - or 55 years and up if you have a documented disability - living in a house within the Folsom city limits. The only other requirement is that your gross annual income be 80 percent or less of the median area income for Sacramento County. As of 2009, the median area income was $52,502, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Under this program, qualified local seniors provide plumbing and electrical repairs, door lock replacement, furnace filter replacement and various other tasks. For jobs that are particularly complex, a licensed contractor may be hired.
To apply for this program, call the Seniors Helping Seniors hotline or email the current administrator - this contact information is available on the city's website. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis unless funding is limited - in these cases, those with the highest need will receive aid first.
