1. Capital One - According to an April 2012 Richmond Times-Dispatch employment survey, Capital One saw a 27 percent year-over-year increase in full-time positions. Hiring was strong throughout the company, but particularly in Central Virginia with 9,995 local full-time employees. The company has offices in Goochland County as well as the Innsbrook Corporate Center in Henrico County, and plans to expand to downtown Richmond this year with its Capital One Commercial Bank.

2. VCU Health System - The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has 7,935 local full-time employees, the news source reports. It includes more than 1 million square feet of clinical space in downtown Richmond as well as the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. In 2011, it was named the Greater Richmond Area Employer of Choice by the Greater Richmond Chamber, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Richmond SHRM.
