Southern cuisine in Raleigh-Durham
Moving into one of the homes for sale in Raleigh-Durham means you'll be living among traditional southern hospitality and the delicious comfort foods that go with it. While you might be relocating to the Triangle for its variety of entertainment options and many job opportunities, the South can't help but charm residents into staying forever.
The relaxed and carefree way of life and the honey-soaked accents are certainly part of this romanticized charm, but the food plays a key role as well. Therefore, as you settle into your new home, consider immersing yourself into the regional culture by sampling the local cuisine.
There are places all over town to get your southern soul food fix, but you might want to start off in Raleigh by going to Larry's Southern Kitchen, located at 330 Tryon Road. Here you can sample all the area favorites, including barbeque ribs, fried chicken, collard greens and chicken and dumplings. If you go here, make sure to try the fried trout!
On the other hand, Chapel Hill residents swear by Crook's Corner Cafe & Bar on 610 West Franklin Street. The New York Times called this spot the "sacred ground for southern foodies," and the menu includes dishes such as jalapeno-cheddar hushpuppies, cool peach soup and shrimp and grits.
