Top Portland private schools offer arts-based curricula

When you start looking at Portland, OR real estate, you'll be wondering where to find the best schools for your children. If you have an artistically inclined kid, you're in luck, as a few of the city's private schools pride themselves on their art- and music-based curriculum and approach to education.

According to Portland Monthly magazine, two of the top arts-focused schools in the city are the Cedarwood Waldorf School and Northwest Academy. Cedarwood is proud to integrate the arts into academics, and despite a heavy emphasis on creative skills, prepares students for a successful future with a wide range of subjects. Enrollment is open through the eighth grade.

Northwest Academy is for middle and high-school students and also integrates the arts with other subjects. A "progressive, accessible, independent" school located downtown, it holds open houses throughout the year for students and parents to tour the facility and attend an information session before applying.

Once your child finishes her art-focused education, she may be inclined to continue with the arts. The Portland State University School of Fine & Performing Arts offers highly rated programs in fields from architecture to music, and you can save on in-state tuition once you've purchased one of the houses for sale in Portland.
