Enjoy the many summer events held in Philadelphia
Relocation during the summer can be an exciting new adventure, especially when you purchase property near venues that often hold events. Fortunately, there are many outdoor movie screening events in the City of Brotherly Love, so your real estate in Philadelphia is likely close to one of the entertainment options.
In 2012, there are free moving screenings at a variety of locations such as Liberty Lands Park in Northern Liberties, the PhilaMoca and at the Race Street Pier, which is being produced by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation and Awesome Fest. Here are sneak peeks into what these venues typically show during the warm summer months.
Liberty Lands Park
Liberty Lands Park is located at 926 North American Street, and people come to the area to enjoy the open land and movie showings. While the 2012 schedule has yet to be officially released, park organizers put on a successful series in 2011 and featured films such as Labyrinth, Blind Side and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. The showings were on Tuesday, and the movies started at 9 p.m.
PhilaMoca, or The Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art, is located on 531 North 12th Street. The venue puts on a variety of shows throughout the summer, ranging from film to art showing to music. In June 2012, guests can view offerings like the screening of Wonder Women!, the Mausoleum Art Show of Horrors and enjoy weekly Tuesday Tune-Outs, which features several different acts.
Race Street Pier
Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m. marks the start of the free shows at the Race Street Pier. The showings will feature independent films from festivals like Sundance and SXSW. Each film will be displayed on a state-of-the-art 30-foot outdoor airscreen created by Awesome Fest. The series kicks off with the movie No Room for Rockstars: The Vans Warped Tour. There are many seats available, but if you want the best view, make sure to get there early. Otherwise, don't be afraid to bring a few extra towels or chairs to lounge on while you enjoy the show.
No matter where you move to in Philadelphia, you'll be able to attend these exciting events. However, if you want to make the events truly fun for everyone, bring a few share-worthy snacks - your new neighbors won't mind.
