VA hospital set to open next year
The VA Medical Center in Orlando, is set to open next year, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Adding a hospital that caters specifically to veterans in an area that already features several nationally-ranked medical facilities, coupled with the additional jobs brought by the hospital, could drive up demand among larger families with elderly members of houses for sale in Orlando.
The hospital had originally been scheduled to open this October, but delays and disputes between the hospital operators and the state and local government pushed the start date back as far as January of 2015 before both sides agreed on the summer of 2013.
"We're encouraged that there is progress," Jerry Mullenix, a representative of the Florida American Legion, told the news source. "It's taking longer than we anticipated but we're excited by the opening and what it will mean to veterans."
Despite the troubles that have plagued the construction of the VA Medical Center, the region still features a sterling reputation for medical care. According to the Orlando Business Journal, Florida Hospital and Orlando Health were both ranked well nationally by the U.S. News and World Report.
