Newport Beach: Vintage surfer style

When you move to a new area, you often want to fit in with the locals. You may wish to find out where the best place is to get coffee, when and where the annual festivals and events take place and how to submerge yourself in the general culture so you can feel like part of the crowd, and at home in your new surroundings. As you settle into one of the homes for sale in Orange County, you may have noticed culture and setting in Newport Beach can be described in a quick glance. It's typically considered luxurious, yet laid back and classically surfer-chic.

Perhaps this is why executives at the high-end New England-based clothing line, Vineyard Vines, shot scenes for the Connecticut business' summer catalog right here in Newport. While the beaches in places like Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, are certainly beautiful, there's just something about the sights and culture of the California coast they couldn't quite find back East. The company looked to Newport for inspiration for its summer merchandise, and featured locals in the catalog such as Delius Bune of Laguna Beach, notes The Orange County Register.

"To celebrate our favorite season we hit the coast of Southern California where we found our fair share of sunshine, waves to ride and a whole lot of great people living the Good Life," explains the Vineyard Vines website when describing the muse for this year's summer line. "Inspired by those people who literally live at beach, like old school surfers from the '60s, our summer collection is as much about a laid-back state of mind as it is doing what you love."

Ian Murray, co-founder of Vineyard Vines, explained to the news source the company expects that it will connect the most with Orange County's boating community. Newport Harbor is the largest recreational boat harbor on the West Coast and is often considered one of the finest in the world. Residents enjoy rowing, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and simply boating around on one of the area's moderately warm days. Many locals are members of area yacht clubs, such as Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

It's easy to see how Newport Beach is a little slice of heaven on Earth. Luckily, as a new resident, you can enjoy the pristine beaches, excellent surfing, boating and casual atmosphere every day. People travel from all over the world to see what Orange County is all about and appreciate what now is in your own backyard.
