Houston earns a spot on list of cities with healthy economies

A city or town's economy could impact a property buyer's decision to purchase a house. Recent data indicates that those who pursue homes for sale in Houston could find that the area's economy is booming, and this trend may continue in the years to come.

The Business Journals' list that rates the economic health of cities across the United States provides insight into how Houston is improving. In an analysis of 102 markets, researchers ranked Houston number four in October 2012. However, Houston has enjoyed a spot in the list's top six for the past few months.  The city ranked number six last month and third in August.

Additional support for Houston businesses
Many businesses have been willing to come to Houston over the past few months. The city is attractive for various reasons, including opportunities provided by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

According to the Houston Business Journal, the SBA offered $678.1 million in loans to Houston-area small businesses in 2012. The agency has created programs that support local companies and provided financial assistance to help these businesses expand their operations.

"The Houston District posted similar results to the national loan volume and continues to sign on new lenders each year," Houston District Director Manuel Gonzalez told the news source. "These results have shown a healthy sign of confidence in the local Houston economy and credit market."
