Downtown Houston: The Ballpark district is a sports fan's hangout
Are you a sports fan browsing the MLS listings in Houston who’s eager to find his or her place in the thriving downtown Houston scene? Though the downtown area, which is divided into many different districts, boasts something for everyone, sports fans will likely spend much of their time in the well-known Ballpark district.
The Ballpark district is named after the world-famous Minute Maid Park, home of the beloved Houston Astros. However, don’t be jarred if natives refer to the park by a variation of one of its other many monikers, such as the Ballpark at Union Station, Enron Field or Astros Field.
Minute Maid Park, located in the historic Union Station, is the epicenter of the Ballpark district, but the surrounding neighborhood has its own appeal. The area boasts beautiful and cohesive architecture, as many of the chic restaurants, bars and offices have been converted from industrial spaces. If you’re looking for casual and unique, the Ballpark district won’t disappoint.
If you’re eager to find a go-to sports bar in downtown Houston, the Home Plate Bar and Grill (located right across from Minute Maid Park), is always hopping and it may soon become one of your favorite haunts.
Tip: If you prefer a quieter bar that’s less likely to be frequented by tourists, you’ll typically find more locals the farther you venture from the stadium.
