Neighborhood Watch: Sausalito

While there are plenty of homes for sale in the Bay Area, sometimes people want to live outside of the immediate San Francisco area. If this is the case, these buyers should consider some of the property that is available to the north of the city, across the Golden Gate Bridge in neighboring Sausalito.

This niche community is divided up into eight sections - Old Town (or Hurricane Gulch), Wolfback Ridge, The Hill, New Town, Monte Mar Vista (Toyon Terrace), Spring Street Valley, Nevada Street Valley and the Marinship. Each small neighborhood offers unique characteristics to residents. For example, Old Town is located right near the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge, and is therefore the best area for those commuting to San Francisco to work.

People who move to Sausalito often get to rub elbows with the world's best and brightest as well. For example, noted author Amy Tan and comedic actor Robin Williams both own homes here. International musicians often record in local studios because of the secluded environment, and the attitude here is very laid back and relaxed.

If you are looking for a more suburban neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, Sausalito is one of the best options available.
