College bowl hosted at San Francisco 49ers' new Santa Clara stadium
While the San Francisco 49ers' new Santa Clara stadium may still be under construction for the National Football League, owners are not letting that stop them from renting out the space to a post-season college bowl event in 2014. The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal reports that the venue, which cost $1.2 billion to build, will host the 2014 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The event is for the best teams in the PAC-12 division and the U.S. Naval Academy.
The college bowl game is typically held at AT&T Park - home field for Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants. According to the news source, the event generates about $130 million in revenue each year.
Current predictions claim that the stadium will be ready to open during the fall of 2014 for the NFL season. The venue contains approximately 68,500 seats.
