Housing construction increasing in Redwood City
Redwood City is a small community right in the middle of the San Francisco Peninsula. The city is known for its high-tech companies, beautiful weather and friendly neighborhood feel. Approximately 26 miles south of San Francisco, there is some of the best real estate in the Bay Area for someone who wants to be outside the hustle and bustle of the big city, yet close enough to all of its attractions.
According to the Palo Alto Daily News, a new housing boom is taking place in Redwood City due to increasing housing construction. The most-recent U.S. Census reports only 246 housing units were built here during the last 10 years, but the newspaper states almost 1,000 homes are currently being built, have been approved for construction or have been proposed.
Redwood's acting planning manager Blake Lyon told the news outlet that this construction boom is due to city efforts to encourage more housing and zoning revisions. This is expected to end the housing slump the city had been experiencing during the last 10 years and possibly provide more affordable housing options. The Census reports the median house value in Redwood City from 2006 to 2010 was $808,600.
